Madeira staat bekend als wandeleiland. Op het eiland vind je de beroemde 'Levadas'. Dit kun je zien als langgestrekte kanalen, die door de bergen lopen. Iedere hoek geeft je weer een nieuw prachtig uitzicht. Aan deze kanalen zijn wandelpaadjes (met de nadruk op het paadjes) gelegd, waar je heerlijk kunt wandelen. De ene levada is pittiger dan de andere. Eén van de levadas die wij hebben gelopen is de levada van de 25 Fontes. Deze levada is redelijk kort, echter redelijk pittig, omdat de paden erg smal zijn en je continu moet kijken waar je loopt. Tevens is dit één van de bekendste levadas, omdat het uitkomt bij de prachtige 25 bronnen. Het water daar is te koud om in te zwemmen, maar heerlijk om even pootje in te baden. Kijk je met me mee?

Madeira is known as a hiking island. On the island you will find the famous 'Levadas'. These are long canals that run through the mountains. Every cornor gives you a new beautiful view on the mountains. Next to those canals are small pathways (with the emphasis on small), where you can walk. One Levada is harder to walk than the other. One of the levadas we did was the levada of the 25 Fontes. This Levada is fairly short, yet quite hard, because the paths are very narrow and you have to continuously look at your feet to see where you step. This is also one of the most famous levadas, because it comes out at the beautiful 25 water sources. The water there is too cold to swim in, but perfect to let your feet cool down.
